Building all or part of your own home is a great technical adventure, but it's not the only one!
It's possible to enjoy the experience in a more convivial, human and friendly way, thanks to participative workcamps.
The TWIZA network puts project owners in touch with volunteers who are curious about eco-construction techniques and eager to help. Whether you're a novice or an experienced builder, there's a place for everyone on participative workcamps, and you can take part at your own level in the development of a form of construction that's more respectful of others and of the living world.

Friday June 9: 10h00-11h00

Alain Mazaud

Emeritus researcher at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement

Climate in all tenses: past, present, future

Current global warming is caused by the accumulation in the atmosphere of greenhouse gases produced by the combustion of oil, gas and coal. Paleoclimatic studies allow us to compare this change with natural climatic variations of the past. They show that current warming is rapid and significant. Climatologists are also modeling the climate of the future, for the 21st century and beyond. The results, compiled by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), show that limiting global warming to an acceptable level for our societies requires a sharp reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The links between climate change, the frequency and amplitude of extreme events (heatwaves, storms, etc.), sea levels, etc., are key issues for assessing risks and possible adaptations.

Claude Lefebvre

Senior expert consultant in defense technologies and CBRN risk management

Developments in CBRN risks and threats

Weapons of Mass Destruction, or Nuclear, Radiological, Biological and Chemical (NRBC) weapons, which emerged during the 20th century, were particularly developed during the Cold War period, and took off at an absolutely remarkable rate in the 1970s and 1980s, without stirring public opinion, which was far from imagining that they could brutally eradicate all life on the planet...

These weapons exacerbate multiple dangers, with polymorphous threats that the world is already facing.

These weapons, available to states and extremists alike, now form part of a spectrum of destruction whose means are becoming increasingly diversified, and represent an almost permanent threat both to combatants deployed in theaters of operation and to civilian populations, who will certainly be the first victims.

Solo crossing of the Sahara: experience feedback

Dreaming of a caravan crossing the Sahara, I set off alone in search of an answer: is it possible to cross this desert vastness via the west coast? My defi will take me to the heart of Mauritania, where I'll have unique experiences with the locals, explore gold mines and climb North Africa's highest peak. It's a total of around 4000km, 30 days and 3 countries crossed. Starting point: Marrakech, finishing point: Dakar. I set off alone to meet people and on foot to take my time. I came back a changed man.

Saturday June 10: 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Olivier Degouve

Journalist, involved in humanitarian work in Southeast Asia, deputy editor-in-chief of Survival magazine.

Survivalism and politics: an impossible entente?

In a context of security withdrawal and identity concerns, survivalism has been the subject of fierce criticism from public authorities.
In January 2021, Laurent Nunez, then national coordinator of intelligence and the fight against terrorism, even spoke of a "survivalist movement", which he equated with "supremacism".

Between misunderstandings and political recuperations, survivalism has been the object of criticism, sometimes legitimate but often caricatured. What can be done to improve relations between the proponents of survivalism and the political authorities? Is survivalism by nature opposed to the principle of the State? These are the questions Olivier Degouve seeks to answer.

Saturday June 10: 4.45pm - 5.45pm

Francis Di-Giorgio

Telecommunications expert and specialist writer

The new Bug Out Vehicles

The stereotypical image of the survivalist's vehicle is the 4x4, capable of coping with all potential traffic hazards. However, there is no shortage of examples of crisis situations requiring the evacuation of one's home, for more or less extended periods, with the uncertainty of where to take refuge. Under these conditions, it would seem that the motorhome, or converted van, could be a more appropriate solution. The purpose of this presentation is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this type of vehicle, as well as to detail the accommodation required.
