  • Edouard DE BUYER

Bushcraft, Survival... How to choose your knife.

Go on an adventure with the "right knife"... from hiking to survival in hostile territory! Edouard de Buyer, engineer, co-founder of Wildsteer, the first French manufacturer of outdoor and tactical knives, presents a complete framework and technical elements to make the best choice of knife. Founded 17 years ago, Wildsteer presents a range of forty field knives, developed with the French Special Forces and units AIr-Mer-Terre and interventions. Each knife is designed in direct collaboration with operational personnel and covers to varying degrees the Rescue, Survival, Defense and other specific applications encountered in the various theatres of operation. What to cut, how hard to cut, what steel to use, what type of handle, what sheath, all critical points to evaluate before making your choice.

Plastic, the ocean drinks the cup

Soon more plastic than fish in the oceans? This is what the UN Environment predicts if we do not change our behavior. Every minute, nearly 26,000 tons of plastic waste are dumped into the oceans. Stranded on beaches, present in the seabed or scattered at sea, it severely threatens the balance of our ecosystem. Decomposed into micro- and nano-plastics, these endocrine disruptors interact with the smallest organisms such as plankton and invertebrates and contaminate the entire food chain. While 75% of marine pollution is continental in origin, it is our duty to find sustainable alternatives to plastic in order to protect these spaces that are essential to sustain life on Earth.

What climate changes in France in the coming years ?

It is difficult to have a global vision of climate issues when the future itself is uncertain. After a quick reminder of the current climatic functioning of the planet, we will take the example of past climatic changes because our planet Earth has not always known the same climates. From glacial periods when the ice caps touched the North of France to interglacial periods like the present one, our country has known great temperature variations. The analysis of the end of the last ice age will then lead us to the future projections in France. The IPCC projects scenarios of +2°C by the end of the century. But what does this mean for us?

  • Brian EJARQUE

  • Alain MAazaud

The climate in all tenses: past, present, future

Climatologists study the current warming caused by the rapid increase in the atmosphere of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide from the burning of oil, gas and coal, methane...). They also reconstruct past climates from polar ice and glaciers, marine sediments, and continental archives (stalagmites, tree rings, lake sediments...). These paleoclimatic studies allow us to understand the dynamics of the climate system over the long term, and to place its current evolution over long periods of time.

Today it is what she shares during her international expeditions: Amazon jungle, Bolivia, Cordillera Royal, Kalahari, Botswana, Indonesia, Canada, Mongolia ... are all playgrounds where she leaves in total autonomy.
  • Joel SCHUERMANS

Surviving sick or injured alone in a natural and isolated environment.

Italy, August 2019, everything seemed well organized for Simon Gautier, a 27-year-old French hiker. However, he will die after a fall during a solitary hike. Wounded and unable to move, he managed to call for help just before losing consciousness. What lessons can we learn from the tragic story of Simon Gautier? How can we prepare to become ourselves, our best chance of survival in case of injury or serious illness far from any help?

  • Pierre 1911

In a world of forced decrease, what is autonomy?

As more and more people have been dreading for a while and, so far, exactly as it was modeled by the Club of Rome report in 1972, we seem to be entering, since the financial crisis of 2008, the COVID19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, into an increasingly troubled period where the old models of infinie growth and their provision of material comforts no longer seem to be working so well, or even seem to be the cause of new evils. Cyrus Farhangi, Laurent Aillet and Pierre1911 explain to us their understanding of what is happening, the conclusions they draw from it on a personal and collective basis and the imperative need to bring our irrational beliefs, our logic of thought and above all the requirement for action into line.
